Choosing sobriety can transform your life for the better. At the Sober Life Project, we strive to provide educational resources surrounding addiction and promote the advantages to living a sober life.
We all know someone who has struggled with addiction. Maybe they’ve spoken out about their sobriety, or maybe they are still battling with seeking help. At Sober Life Project, we celebrate those who choose to live a sober life, while we honor and remember those who’ve been lost to the effects of alcoholism and addiction.
Even now, there is a stigma associated with addiction. Without the right resources and support, thousands of people will continue to die each year.
Together, we can live a life of clarity.
Our Founder’s Story
Alienation, loss and a need for accountability are feelings our founder, Steve Wilson, knows all too well when it comes to the devastating impacts of alcoholism and substance abuse.
“I grew up with a father who drank alcohol everyday,” Wilson explained. “Some days, more than others. Eventually, that regular consumption of alcohol alienated him from most of his family. It eventually caused him to die from alcohol-related complications at a very young age.”
Losing his aunt 14 years later to an alcohol-related illness, his experience with loss was far from over.
“Saturday, September 9, 2023, my phone rang at 6:30 am,” he said.
He was informed that his brother, a U.S. Army Veteran, a father and a husband, had taken his own life after a years-long struggle with alcohol abuse.
It was three days after the death of his brother, that Wilson embarked on his own path to sobriety.
“I never looked back,” he said. “The most transformative thing I have ever done was to get sober, take accountability for my actions, become willing to change my life and reach out to help the next person.”
While he lost his nephew to an alcohol-related auto accident on May 4, 2024, Wilson continued to live a life of clarity — a sober life.
The Sober Life Project wants to honor and remember those lost to alcoholism and substance abuse while continuing to build a community to support and help those who still struggle.
